My Journey Into Art

First Week of Art Journaling

I'm hoping to make this a daily habit. I think about what a treasure this would be at the end of the year to reflect back on and I hope that will be enough for me to keep moving forward and doing it. I'm terrible at keeping up with things like this but I'm going to do my darnedest to make it happen this year. My first two children have mostly empty baby books. I didn't bother getting a book for my third because I knew I wouldn't do it. Sad, huh?!

I've blocked out bits and pieces of the journaling to keep some sense of privacy. I'm working on the journal from the point of view that it's mine and not from the point of view that I'm making this for an audience. I don't to have to censor myself. I found some of my previous art journaling posted to Pinterest and I have to admit it made me feel funny inside. I didn't write anything super personal but the idea that someone else put it in a place where I hadn't intended it to go felt weird for a bit. I'm not sure why I felt that way about it because I did post it here on my blog and in my flickr stream which are both open forums. In the end, I was fine with it because it was obviously a source of inspiration for them.

  1. *so* lovely. Wow- this is just so beautiful! It's like a mandala. I really love it! I know what you mean about the struggle to keep things private vs. knowing it's getting "out there" as you create it. I struggle with that all the time. I think it's always in the back of my mind. It's probably one of the reasons I don't open an Etsy shop for my jewelry- it's one thing when it goes out to stores because once I send it out, it's out of my hands, but when it goes on Etsy there's still a fair bit of interaction/observation left, and it makes me uncomfortable, in a way. I definitely edit my work when I feel like I might be privy to someone's observation of it, if that makes any sense at all...

    1. Privacy is important to me. It's part of the reason why I never refer to my children by name on my blog. I want to share my art journey and glimpses of my life but afraid to reveal too much. I had an incident in the past with blogging that scared me into not revealing too much personal detail.

As for Etsy, my experience was a good one there. While yes there is a lot of interaction and feedback with customers, they are usually very pleasant to work with.

  2. I love the idea of writing within and around mandalas, for I draw many but I usually don't combine with journaling. I love the white + purple combination!

  3. Thanks, Tammy. I appreciate you stopping by and giving feedback. I don't usually combine writing with my mandalas either, it was my first time.
