Macaw

I finished this painting this morning. I've had it sitting for several weeks now and wanted to get it done. There's something satisfying about finishing a project. Next up is a Rottweiler for a friend. It's a bit slow going but I hope to finish that one soon too. I'm ready to break from realism and try some whimsical for a change of pace.

8" X 10" on 140 lb Cold Press Strathmore 500 paper and M. Graham watercolors.

Macaw

In other news, I reserved my spot in a life drawing studio on Tuesday. I'm both nervous and excited. I haven't done a life drawing since I was 19 and not knowing anyone in the group is a little intimidating as well. I'm embracing my "brave" and going with it.

Have a great weekend!

  1. This is *fantastic*. It really is. The colors are beautiful, and I'm *really* impressed by her (his?) eye. Birds' eyes are so expressive, but so hard to really capture. I should try painting Winnie- but I think I would do that from a photograph ;)

    1. Thanks, Chel. I always work from photos on these types of paintings. I don't draw well from life. I'm hoping that going to the life drawing studio will help me with drawing proportion, perspective and realistic dimensions.

  2. Thanks for your comment on my mandala, Stephanie! Beautiful Macaw! I'm excited for you to be going to a life drawing class. You will have SUCH a wonderful time! I had the pleasure of being able to attend one after years of having done so. You'll be FINE! It all comes back to you. Hope to see some photos from your class.

  3. Thanks, Angelia! I hope I don't walk out of there feeling deflated about my drawing skills when comparing myself to others. I'm not letting it stop me from going though!

  4. This is gorgeous! I love to draw, and always have ever since I was a kid, but painting is a whole new ballgame for me! MUCH to learn, but I'm having fun with, gradually (VERY gradually building up my supply of paints, brushes, and GESSO!) Looking forward to seeing more of your work at Flicker/Book of Days! ~tina
