This first one was done completely from imagination. There is something wrong with her eyes and I think her nose is too narrow.

This portrait was done looking at a magazine of a model. I won't mention who the well known actress/model is because this looks NOTHING like her. I went for a more realistic look after the one from imagination didn't turn out. This one isn't much better. Again there is something wrong with the eyes -- too small, too close together?

These were done on canvas using Golden Liquid Acrylics. Lovely, lovely paint.
I honestly think they are great. When I started taking "Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain" one of the first assignments was to draw a face from memory. I drew what I intended to be Gracie. SO NOT GRACIE. So not anybody, so not HUMAN. It was a little shocking, but definitely drove home the things the author was saying! Drawing faces is *super* challenging.
ReplyDeleteWOW these are beautiful, I wish mine could look this good. Ok you have a gift for painting hair, all your girls have great hair. I'm thinking it's because your hair looks great to from the little profile photo of yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is awesome because it came from your imagination, WOW!! I like her eyes, looks good to me.
The second one does look like someone but I'm not good with names/celebreties?? I like her hair and she looks so natural and down to earth which I like.
I think you have a talent for faces and hope you keep making more!!
Thanks for sharing and it's nice to see someone else that still shows her not favorite work but keeps going!!
Thanks for the comments, Dawn. I'm trying to keep it real here so I will continue to post my work - good and bad.
DeleteI'm enjoying the girls you are painting. They are a lovely mix of quirky + charming. I've tried painting a few faces with fluid acrylics, and I so enjoyed the process and the flow of the paint.
